Welcome to BACHAO Buddy. My name is Arizah Saif and I am a Bangladeshi-American. Living in the United States of America, the possibility of getting an education was never a question. Ever since the 3rd grade, I’ve wanted to attend University. My mind was filled with questions of which college I would attend in the future, but never did the worry of sacrificing an education all together cross my mind. In Bangladesh, many honor students are not able to receive a

a college education because they need to provide for their families. These young men and women struggle day and night to find food, water, and shelter for their loved ones. It took a few years for me to understand this issue. For the past 6 years I have dedicated my time and energy to helping the less fortunate earn a university degree.

I have taken up the duty of spreading the information about these honor students, and doing as much of my ability to give them an education they deserve. Doing these small things will not only help give the next generation of Bangladeshis an opportunity of education, but the opportunity to change the future of their families. If providing such a minimal action encourages this tremendous change, then I am willing to assist with my whole heart.

Bangladesh is a small country in South Asia that faces a number of major challenges including poverty among a list of many other problems. However, with all its problems, Bangladesh is the eighth most populous country in the world while being one of the poorest. Approximately half of its 126 million citizens live in deprivation and around 26 out of the 63 million children live below the national poverty level. Over a third of the population is under the age of 18 and almost seven million children between five and 14 have to work to help their families survive.

My goal with BACHAO Buddy is to raise money through fundraisers & charitable donations to give 3 students a year, who have shown tremendous success and potential academically, the opportunity to receive a college education. Many of the students rank at the top of their class but are unable to move to the next level and BACHAO Buddy wants to help those students. How will I do that You might ask? By working with local communities, and schools to spreading the word about the underprivileged in Bangladesh and how privileged we are and how we should give back.

My plan for the future of BACHAO Buddy is to help 3 students a year and raise money for their education. Then after each student is helped, I plan to help more students because there are over dozens of high potential students in Bangladesh that can’t afford to recieve a higher education. Another plan is to expand the number of students that BACHAO Buddy supports per year if donations allow. In summary, i would like to continue to support the meritorious students until support would no longer be neccesary.

Rotary club of Gulshan started the scholarship project in the year 2010. Twenty very poor meritorious students those who obtained GPA-5 in SSC examinations from remote rural areas were selected. Gradually more students were selected and now 34 students are recieving monthly scholarship under the project. Out of the 34 students, 14 students of Professional degree courses have been selected as suggested by BACHAO. Out of those 14 students, BACHAO Buddy picked 3 to focus on. Since these students are from very poor families they are likely to enter into the job market after completing a professional degree. This will enable them to support their families, which gets priority to these studenst over a post graduate degree.
